Truth Interview Thursday Spotlight - Saint Kabr

Welcome to our Clan Truth Community Spotlight! This week, we are sitting down with one of the holiest of admins we have, Saint Kabr!

CT: Hey Saint, welcome to TITS. We’re all excited to have you here today. Let’s start out with an easy question. What do you do for work?

I’m a product owner for a software development team at a telecom company! Basically I help guide the development of a SQL server and a few different tools that we use within our company to manage spend and various other information. A lot of my time is spent in agile meetings or creating technical documentation describing future work. (Can you help me figure out what the fuck PC Load Letter means?)

CT: Aside from videogames, what hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy?

I’ve slowly become obsessed with coffee over the past 5 years so I’m often found at a few local cafes! Other than that, I like to run, spend time with my girlfriend, our cat Clover, and occasionally get into some DIY electronics.

CT: What is a skill you have that you take pride in?

Probably public speaking? I know that’s something that a lot of people struggle with, but I believe I’ve become quite good at it over the years.

CT: Any fun facts about yourself?

I am an S-tier pancake chef. Another skill that I’ve taken the time to hone over many Saturday mornings and recipe variations. (Ok, so you and Corvian need to have a pancake cook-off. I volunteer to judge.)

CT: How long have you been playing video games and what are some of your earliest and/or favorite video game memories?

I have studied the way of the sticks for many moons! I think the very first game I ever had was Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. Other early highlights include a Gameboy with Kirby and Pokémon. Can’t forget about the first time I saw Master Chief either…

CT: What are your favorite foods, music, movies, shows, etc.?

Favorite food is a toss up between Pad Thai or Mole Enchiladas, been spoiled with good Mexican food in TX most of my life! Music depends on the mood, but Vampire Weekend is my all time #1. I also listen to a good amount of instrumental (Tycho) and grew up on classic rock so I’ve got a soft spot for AC/DC and the like. Guardians of the Galaxy is without a questions not only the best in MCU, but also my all-time fav. Last, but not least: STRANGER THINGS! From the characters to the story and music I absolutely stan that show.

CT: Is there any special story or significance behind your gamertag?

At the time I was looking for a screen name I had just read a lot of D1 lore. I really liked VoG and the story of the first fireteam. Kabr turned himself into the aegis so we could eventually succeed. His story is that of a martyr and that’s where the saint part comes from! I like to think of him as the Gandalf the White of Destiny for those that are familiar with Tolkien’s work.

CT: Let’s talk a bit about Destiny and Clan Truth specifically. When did you first start playing Destiny, and can you tell us about what drew you to the game?

I spent lots of hours in the Halo franchise and thought that was the best feeling shooter ever so I had to give Destiny a try!

CT: What is your favorite/primary class? Why?

To put it simply: punch. In more detail: bubble. (I’ll just assume you meant to say warlock)

CT: If you could remove any one weapon from the game, which one and why?

Lorentz Drive me into insanity… It’s a fantastic weapon in design, sound, and performance in PvE, but I despise playing against it in PvP so incredibly much I would give it up in Nightfalls. I’ll settle for a 150% reduction in aim assist nerf though.

CT: If you could design an exotic weapon or armor, what would it be?

Ohhh excellent question. I really like sleeper as it feels a bit like the old Spartan Laser, but it needs a little bit more xeno in it. It’s vex looking exotic linear fusion rifle called “Extermination Protocol”. It shoots a straight beam that has splash dmg and over penetrates barricades (or guardians for multi kills).

CT: So, you are Clan Truth’s first officially canonized Saint (we all know Cephalopod is just a street), how did you accomplish such a task? Can you tell us about your three miracles?

Guardians take coming back from the dead for granted these days, but not so long ago that was a big deal! As mentioned in my origin story the name has a bit of a church history reference or you could say is an ode to stories old, even pre-golden age! Miracles? I think my first was DSC run #2 with Old Guard, second was killing Atheon with 20 minutes to spare, and the final was getting Disco a flawless Sherpa run. (Some dispute whether the final actually happened or is just a legend)

CT:  Your new podcast is pretty awesome! How did that all come together?

Thank you! I’ve been listening to MB for the past couple of years, but just a few months ago the guys recommended a less than ideal PvE roll for Cartesian Coordinate and it did not go over well with the internet as you may imagine. I reached out to Merc with a brief professional/destiny resume and offered myself as a PvE focused host! That was a while ago, but he kept in touch and eventually things came together for something even better! (That’s freaking rad, I’m gonna submit a resume to Lep)

CT: Why aren’t you shilling Clan Truth more in the podcast?

I uhhh, I was see, and then… I get all excited about weapon perks and dmg stacking and the mind loses compete traction. More schilling soon though! I promise!!! (I feel like there’s more reason than ever to up the shilling)

CT: Does your cat get good MPG?

Fantastic, you could even say the engine purrs. (goddamnit)

CT: If you dropped dead while gaming, does your cat have permission to eat your body to stay alive until your body is discovered?

Oh absolutely, it’s in my will in fact.

CT: What is your most treasured/favorite collectible (doesn’t have to be related to gaming)?

I have a lot of the physical raid seal pins and really enjoy those. Especially the difficult ones I have specific memories from.

CT: Who do you think is the sexiest admin?

Shua, obviously.

CT: On a scale from Uldren to Cayde, how good of a roommate is Professor?

Drifter. He may be shady and have a beard, but you can count on him.

CT: If you dropped dead while gaming, does Professor have permission to eat your body to stay alive until your body is discovered?

As long as the cat eats first. Gotta be reasonable about these things.

CT: I’ve heard that you used to have a problem with live music and houses and getting lost while you were in college. Can you tell us more about that?

Lost? Not sure if I would say I was lost, but I did take a shower at a house that was by all intents and purposes not my own while heavily inebriated. I think I made the deliberate choice, but my friends acted otherwise, like it was a ‘bad idea’ or something. As far as I’m concerned, I made it home in one piece, feeling good as ever, never to see that house again. AbsoluteWin.gif

CT: What embarrassing information can you tell us about Professor?

He knows an unreasonable amount of information about 16-17 year old European high school guys. He argues that it’s because he loves primer and nation league soccer so much, but I think it’s kinda like a sports boy band thing. Don’t tell him that though, he REALLY loved soccer. (Has Professor ever been told to “have a seat right over there”?)

CT: If you were handed $50,000 in cash and told it had to be used in the next 7 days to take a trip worth writing a book about, where would you go? What would you do?

I would absolutely love to take a trip across southern Asia (Japan all the way to Singapore). I think it would make for a great experience because of the vastly different culture. Plus, there are no shortage of beautiful natural environments and massive cities to explore. (Dude, I will so go with you on this trip. Someone give us money please.)

CT: Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself that we haven’t covered yet?

I think this have about covered it! I appreciate the time to talk so much about myself and am grateful to be a part of Clan Truth! FT BEST T!

Saint, thank you so much for your time! It was great learning more about you!

This concludes this week’s installment of the Truth Interview Thursday Spotlight!
