Truth Interview Thursday Spotlight - ADrunkenSaylor

Welcome to our Clan Truth Community Spotlight! This week, we decided to highlight one of our sexiest admins, ADrunkenSaylor!

CT: So, Saylor, tell us a  little about yourself (without revealing too much identifying information you don’t want to give away. Maybe just tell me your mother’s maiden name or something)

Saylor: I actually just started a new job yesterday, so we’ll see where my responsibilities lie, but it’s a small software company supporting retail stores where I’ll manage their Azure cloud environment for their next-gen product.

CT: Aside from videogames, what hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy?

Saylor: I’ve played guitar and drums since I was 12. Never been part of a band, but I’ve always enjoyed just sitting down to play some songs. I also used to be in a dart league with some friends, but never started back up after quarantine. We were terrible, but we had a lot of fun and drank a lot of booze. And in the end, that’s what matters right?

CT: What is a skill you have that you take pride in?

Saylor: While I could just reiterate the music stuff here, that would be less fun. I’ve always prided myself as a quick study. I learn things quickly and I really enjoy learning itself. And it’s a skill that can be applied to anything; from my career to murdering Taniks for the 43rd time.

CT: Only 43? Such a slacker… Any other fun facts about yourself?

Saylor: While I don’t have too many scars (Never broken a bone), most of my scars are from fake battles with friends. I have one on my thumb from a sword fight while filming a Greek Mythology project in high school, one on my other thumb from filming a Roman Mythology project where we were retreating from battle and I skidded on some pavement that was particularly gravel-y, and one on my shin from an outdoor laser tag battle where I went to jump over a fallen tree and landed on a stump that still had some splinters attached. I didn’t do any other mythology film projects because I ran out of thumbs to injure and didn’t want to see what was next. (Sounds like your Guardian skills don’t quite translate to real life…)

CT: How long have you been playing video games and what are some of your earliest and/or favorite video game memories?

Saylor: I’ve been playing since around 5 or 6 years old. Like Sgreaments, my earliest memories are Altered Beast and Sonic on Sega Genesis. Our Genesis was messed up and would overheat after an hour, so it was mostly casual gaming until I got an N64 and got the big hitters. Super Mario 64, Banjo & Kazooie, Ocarina of Time. Those are what shaped my childhood.

CT: What are your favorite foods, music, movies, shows, etc.?

Saylor: I am a very uncultured eater. I could live off wings, pizza, and burgers. I put buffalo sauce on tons of stuff since it’s cheap and easy to make things taste good. I mostly listen to any kind of rock from 60’s to 00’s. Foo Fighters and Rush are probably my two favorite bands. Recently I discovered Explosions in the Sky and I’ve listened to Postcard from 1952 on loop ever since. Favorite movie is The Prestige and favorite show is Futurama, which might be evident from my discord avatar.

CT: So, let’s talk Destiny and Clan Truth specifically. When did you first start playing Destiny, and can you tell us about what drew you to the game?

Saylor: I mentioned it a bit recently, but I started with online gaming and having a gamertag in the Halo 2 era. Back then there were no achievements or anything, so there was less incentive to keeping the same name, so I lived off the two-month XBL cards from Blockbuster. I did have one mainstay tag in TheSuperChalupa but cancelled it around high school. I started playing World of Warcraft around then and several friends all made characters with edgy-teen names, so mine was Øbliviate with the super cool slash thing. When I got an Xbox 360 and Halo 3, I decided to settle down with one name and made it Oblivion. The 95 came from a shortening of the random numbers I was assigned from a suggestion for an AIM username a few years prior, eldrshadow9558. (Wait a minute…)

CT: So, let’s talk Destiny and Clan Truth specifically. When did you first start playing Destiny, and can you tell us about what drew you to the game?

Saylor: I originally played the D1 beta on Xbox, but never did much aside from the Earth missions. I was sold from the moment I heard Bungie was making a new game. I am technically not a day one launch player because GameStop didn’t send my digital code until day two. I swore off them ever since.

CT: So, after all these years of Destiny, what is your primary/favorite class and why?

Saylor: While Hunter is my main that I usually do new content and day one raid stuff with, I play more and more Titan by the season. Love both classes a ton. I just don’t jive with glide. I don’t enjoy the floofiness compared to the jetpacky-ness of the Titan. Although Icarus Dash skating is a lot of fun. Also used blink for the G2G three-man DSC which was fun. But glide is unfun.

CT: Tell the people about your history with Clan Truth

Saylor: I was in one other clan in D2 which I’ve mentioned had Eris Morn fanfics and a lot of drama when the leader (Who was said Eris Morn fanfic-er) quit the game and took the clan with him. So, I shopped around and settled on Clan Truth a month or two after Forsaken dropped after seeing a reddit post. A few weeks later I pretended to know Last Wish enough to do a clan triumph run with some Forsaken bois (Literally had only done one D2 raid before then where I was sherpa’d by a guy named A Huge Hotdog and had no idea what was going on with their speedrun tactics). Stuck with that group (which had Pentad of all people) through the rest of Rivensbane and been with Clan Truth ever since.

CT: If you could remove any one weapon from the game, which one and why?

Saylor: I actually love the sandbox currently, it’s extremely well balanced compared to past seasons. Lawrence Diver is still a bit frustrating, and Lemon Arc is super annoying with the Empowered playstyle, but otherwise I don’t have any issues. Maybe Last Word on controller. (The correct answer would be shotguns)

CT: If you could design an exotic weapon or armor, what would it be?

Saylor: I think the obvious answer is to make Celestial Nighthawk work with Blade Barrage to launch a massive meat cleaver, but I think we’re overdue for a crossbow exotic. Make it have mini arrows on a chain like a machine gun and just blast through a “mag” rapid fire.

CT: Let’s get to the questions that the people have truly been clamoring for! First, where does the name “ADrunkenSaylor” come from? I’ve heard that you are neither a drunkard, nor a sailor (note: I realize now that I already asked this, but I’d been drinking before finishing the questions).

Saylor: This would honestly be a better question for Saylor since I don’t know the answer. I can tell you that I’m not much of a drinker, and I’ve never been more than a passenger on someone else’s boat. Does that help at all? (Yes, it totally does… wait, what the fuck?)

CT: How did you end up becoming an admin?

Saylor: I was called up along with Saylor (seriously, what the fuck is happening right now? I don’t think those were shitake mushrooms…) right before Shadowkeep dropped to head up the newest branch of the family with him, Shattered Truth. Aside from my freakish good looks which weren’t a consideration since no one in the clan has actually seen me or my likeness, I think I was selected for my helpfulness and general loveable nature. Not to mention how humble I am. I could kick the shit out of anyone’s humbleness with my own.

CT: What jobs have you had over the years that you have loved and/or hated the most?

Saylor: Aside from the brand-new job, I only worked at one other place. I was hired right out of college for one of the big boi pharma companies in IT. Over the years my role changed several times, so I got to experience nearly anything I wanted to learn about in tech. They really loved wasting money and we always had the new toys. We even had a 3D printer for some reason. It was a great experience to really immerse in technology, but as all big companies do, they outsourced.

CT: If you had the power to demote any admin, who and why?

Saylor: There’s this one guy who keeps posting in the admin channel uninvited that I’d really like to kick out for good, but he just keeps coming back no matter what we do. But honestly, I think we have too many canonized admins. I’d probably have Kabr and Ceph fight to the death over who stays.

CT: How do you feel about Sgreaments theory about you and Oblivion being the same person?

Saylor: I find this abhorrent and will not perpetuate this farce even for a laugh.

CT: Who do you think is the sexiest admin?

Saylor: While most would go with Shua and his enticing OnlySnap posts, I find Disco the more attractive pick. He wears way more pink and the cat ears just do it for me.

CT: What would you like to tell us that we haven’t already asked?

Saylor: I’m actually Oblivion. (How in the fuck? I need a drink…)

That concludes this installment of the Truth Interview Thursday Spotlight!

Merry Truthmas everyone!!!
